Toshiba laptop running Vista sp2

I can't get Windows Vista to finish loading. I haven't added any hardware recently. Software yes, updates yes.

After the BSOD which flashes by too fast for me to read, I ran the Startup Repair option then it says "The system could not repair the startup problem" and posts a message at the end of the repair log that said "A bad patch is preventing the system from starting".

When I select Start Windows Normally, it simply reboots, without even making it to the logon screen. I tried to boot in safe mode, but loads only as far as crcdisk.sys and then restarts.

I tried going into Advanced and using System Restore but it tells me that there are no restore points. I can get to the command prompt and other drive partitions.
I don't have backup or install Cd's or DVD's. I only have whatever Toshiba put in a partition on the drive.

I'm not sure, it's on automatic updates. I know it had been over a month since the machine had been re-booted. Never had any problems before now. I've had it a little over a year.

Ok I tried that. It reports that it "cannot lock current drive, volume in use by another process, force a dismount y/n".

Hey, I'm in the same boat.
Vista LG R510 laptop.
User claims to have applied updates last night. (a service pack I think)
No restore points.
Just seems to hang forever under normal boot.
Repair can't repair, log says bad patch prevented booting up.

I'll let you know if I figure something out, but I no Vista pro.
